  • We have been educating students for over 40 years in the San Diego area.
  • Our school is associated with one of the largest Lutheran school systems in the country with 369 early childhood ministries; 281 elementary schools ; 26 area high schools; 2 Prep high schools; and 1 college.
  • We provide a Christ-centered and grace-filled environment that is safe and nurturing for all our students.
  • Our academic curriculum and multi-grade classrooms meet students where they are, as we provide personalized attention for each student.
  • Our students enjoy a rich variety of extra-curricular activities.
  • Our faculty is committed to each individual student and providing regular parent/teacher communication.

We’d love to support your family with all of these things, too! Come visit our school by scheduling a tour. Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions we receive from Shepherd of the Hills’ parents. Is your question not answered here? Please contact us for all inquiries.

Do we have to be members of the church to enroll in the school?

No, our mission is to offer a private Christian school education for families within the community. This includes families that are members of our church, families that belong to a different church, and families that do not have a church home.

Do students have to wear uniforms?

We do not have a uniform policy that requires students to wear uniforms. We have a very basic dress code that follows common sense for attire.

What are multi-grade classrooms?

Multi-grade classrooms have more than one grade level in the classroom. For example, our K-2 classroom has a combination of grade kindergarten through second grade in the same room. If you would like to learn more about this unique setting and its benefits, take a look at our academics page.

Do you follow Common Core Standards?

As we are a private school, we are not required to follow Common Core standards. We continually study standards to create exit goals or standards for students in each grade and each subject. We have a combination of content, skills, and problem solving standards.

Where do your students go to high school?

We have an association high school in the Temecula area called California Lutheran High School, a top Christian school, but this is not required. Our students go on to attend a number of different high schools from private to public.

What type of schedule do you follow?

We have a traditional calendar year that starts at the end of August and finishes up at the start of June. Our school day begins at 8:15am and ends at 3:00pm.
